Moods of Norway at Capsule, New York

Bright and early yesterday morning, I took the train into New York City to attend the Capsule Show—the fashion and lifestyle trade event that presents numerous menswear brands from around the world.

I was delighted to find nearly 200 brands, many of which have been featured here at Men’s Fashion by Francesco.

The first stand that I approached was Moods of Norway, a label that was created in the picturesque town of Stryn, Noway (population of 6750), by designers Simen Stalnacke and Peder BØrresen, later joined by Stefan Dahlkvist.

The colors of the 2011 spring/summer collection were rich and bright, almost like an assortment of sorbet flavors of ice cream! The combination of colors on the shoes were scrumptious.

Moods of Norway skillfully takes the stereotypical symbols of everyday Norwegian life and interprets them in light of contemporary fashion.

Johnny Love 2011 Spring/Summer Collection

Johnny Love 2011 spring/summer collection continues the success of this Norwegian brand.

The brand draws particular inspiration from Mods, architecture, and retro-futurism,

Elegant lines, unique details, and durability are the mainstays of the line.

Johnny Love lays particular emphasis on the cut of each garment, ensuring masculine looks for a manly profile.

Details are also very important to Johnny Love: “The devil is in the details, and doubly so for Johnny Love.”
In applying the details, Johnny Love strives for balance.

Layering of fabrics, distinctive lines, and a unique fashioning of pockets, buttons, and folds all create the signature silhouette, which is a comfortable, close fit.

Finally, what sets Johnny Love apart is the company’s stance on ethics, producing garments with low cargo mileage and respect for workers.

Johnny Love 2010 Autumn/Winter Collection

Johnny Love is a Norwegian label that combines classic fashion with classic streetwear into a marriage of sporty comfortable garments.

The brand draws particular inspiration from Mods, architecture, and retro-futurism, while textiles are sourced from top quality Italian manufacturers.

Here is what Johnny Love says about its philosophy:

“There are two central issues defining the making Johnny Love garments: ‘What should the clothes feel like?’ and ‘Why?’ The answer is pretty simple. Johnny Love wants clothes to be comfortable and relaxing, yet stylish. Looking and feeling great.

The way most people deal with this in a world of classic fashion vs. casual clothes is by donning the black blazer/stone-washed jeans combo. We want more. So we try to make garments that perfectly combine the two elements.

Our materials are always of extreme top quality, and the saint of roughness and edginess is looking over our shoulder as we design the fits. The result is an unbeatable marriage of elegant lines, unique details, and durability—equally suited for work, leisure, and royal audiences.”
