One episode in and we're already at "WHAT the...?"
Weird, right? Heidi and Tim dishing about the designers? Not bad necessarily; just jarring.
And all the meeting up in public was cute enough, but very Real World-y.
And meeting up at Lincoln Center (as opposed to the late lamented Bryant Park) definitely took a little getting used to.
Plus, someone got the floor wax out on the runway! Ch-ch-ch-changes, darlings.
Not bad at all as a judge. Although frankly we wanted to take her aside, make a little circle with our index fingers and say "Honey, this? This is all making you look like an old Hollywood star on "What's My Line?" or "To Tell the Truth." Then again, maybe that was the point and she was just getting her Kitty Carlisle on for the fun of it.
So congrats to the self-proclaimed hippy chick from Portland!Just checking, but there are women from Portland who aren't self-proclaimed hippy chicks, right?
She was sweet, though. And non-delusional with seemingly no personality disorders, which is apparently a rarity with this crowd. We don't mind the win. Who else were they going to give it to after the Parade O' Crack on that runway?Check it:
Shiny runway! We wonder if there'll be a higher percentage of faceplanting models this season. That'll be something to look forward to. Maybe the runway looks so shiny because the producers dumped a couple gallons of olive oil on it just to keep it interesting.Oh, right. The dress.
Well, it's pure Simplicity, isn't it, darlings? As soft as Butter(ick).
Oh, we're being bitches. There's not a lot of there there, but it's a decent dress.
She says that simple and minimalist is her thing, so this is probably a good indication of what we can expect from her going forward. We like it, actually. There's nothing wrong with simplicity done well.
And this is done well. Its fits her beautifully, which is not always the first thing one notices on a dress like this, but there it is. The loose bodice and flowy skirt moved beautifully with her body and the silhouette was very flattering.
To be honest, it's the back that fails to grab us.
We would have preferred no back at all, but she needed some way to work in the original garment, so she went with epaulets, which we have to give her some credit for, because that's not a choice that would have occurred to a lot of designers. Unfortunately, from the back, those shoulder treatments look plopped on.
Also, fishtail hems. We're not fans.
Still, it was a quietly beautiful and elegant design and she styled the model perfectly. This is such a Kors-ism (sue us, we've been blogging his every utterance for 7 seasons now) but she really "told a story" with this dress and styling. You knew the girl and you knew where the girl was going. That's just the kind of stuff Nina and Michael gush over.No, she deserved the win, even if we couldn't have predicted it. And like we said, who else did anything win-worthy out of that group?
