Meltin’Pot is proud to display internationally throughout its retailer’s windows/concessions, images from its recent collaboration MY PLEASURE #001 by Meltin’Pot 001 with International style bible—WAD, which appears in its R-EVOLUTION issue.

The pictorial story shot by photographer Sylvain Homo on location in Paris and styled by WAD’s Fashion director Laura Walters sets the tone and the energy for this season’s new MP collection whilst celebrating denim which remains timeless whatever the century, occasion or season.

Marta Carichino, Meltin’Pot’s Marketing Director comments:”We are very pleased to have worked with the WAD team on this fashion shoot and feel this rockesque fashion story really emulates Meltin’Pot’s energy for the forthcoming season with our new collections both MP001 for men and Meltin’Pot mainline and the cross cultural ethos of our brand. Infact we liked it so much that we decided to decorate our fall window displays using selected images”.

Mr. Blue Jeans: “Made in Italy” by Cosimo Romano & Meltin’Pot

Well before Halston gave us denim stretch, Brook Shields donned her CK’s and David Dundas sang about putting his “Jeans On”... Cosimo Romano was giving denim that “Made in Italy” touch of a difference...

Cosimo Damiano Romano was born to two modest parents in Matino, in the Puglia region of Italy. There is nothing this man does not know or has not experienced first hand in the production of a pair of blue jeans be it skin fit or bell bottomed, straight or low rise...with over 30 years of experience under his belt loop.

The 3rd of ten children, Cosimo at the tender age of 8 has to come to terms with the loss of his mother and his adolescence is divided between working in the fields and school. At an early age he abandons his studies to assist his father. Whilst immigration seems to be the only solution for many, the young and eager Cosimo uses his stubbornness to discover alternative routes to abandoning his family, home and region of southern Italy. His first move is a job as a driver for local typographers but his desire to create and build his own enterprise continues to rein strong.

His first flirt with the world of clothing industry commences alongside his wife, Antoinetta (a tailor) producing children’s clothing for a small store but 1967 is the year in which the generous and jovial Cosimo is to meet a jeans wholesale and that meeting would change his life. The idea to create a clothing production company with his family united is born and in 1979 Romano Confezioni was created amidst the peak era of the “denim jeans boom”, providing his ever growing clientele with a full cycle production service. During the growth of the company Cosimo is awarded by the Republic many prestigious industry and commerce awards for excellence.

In 1988, Cosimo gives life to a new society named; “Confezioni C. Romano & C. S.r.l.” a new factory site is created and built which is later increased in 1992 to span some 30.000 Mq. In 1994 following years of investment in new production techniques and the factory, Romano takes the initiative to invest in the promotion, marketing and production of a brand new concept. That concept is the birth of its own Brand Meltin’Pot, into which Romano pours its years of know-how and expertise which in a short period of time becomes a strong brand player within the European denimwear market.

Meltin’Pot has gone from strength to strength as a brand and next month will add another retail element to its successful recipe with the launch of a dedicated E commerce site, making the brand accessible 24 hours a day and initially Europe wide followed by a US extension.

Romano Spa continues to produce jeans and denimwear for brands such as Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, Notify to name but a few and the companies gross annual turnover this year looks set to hit the 60 million of Euro’s mark.

Augusto Romano, Cosimo’s son is the Managing Director of the company whilst Romano remains President of the Romano Spa and continues to challenge the production industry with initiative techniques as he did over 30 years ago.

Meltin’Pot 2011 Spring/Summer Collection: Denim Details

Meltin’Pot’s spring/summer 2011denim collection, which is already both varied and condensed, is reenergized with certain original “aspects,” the result follows an in-depth and fruitful research into new fits, fabrics, washes and treatments, which remain the core strength of the brand.

The new summer collection features a wide range of washed tones and colors. Thanks to the inclusion of different types of cottons ranging from historical bull and gabardine to a new paper poplin and canvas.

Aspects of authentic vintage and used blue canvas remain, and the primary focus is on the worn effect with shades of blue and white “bleached” in addition to new techniques for implementing broken denim. The timeless “ripped” jean is not only broken and patched, but also utilises a new technique to achieve this “rip & repair” effect, made up of various sizes of patches to repair the rips—a process not dissimilar to a bike tire repair.

Another new aspect is “fading” (a “direct” pigment dye is applied, which gives a colored marble effect on the surface) of the jeans: these innovative procedures to bleach the denim are carried out by hand and are mandatory for each piece.

The leading innovation of the new Meltin’Pot s/s 2011 collection is, however, the “New Old Vintage Color,” a treatment developed for the premium capsule collection Mp001. Completely handcrafted and obtained by means of ecological products giving a vintage aspect to the item, but without intervening with use of aggressive chemical treatments that very often wear down the natural cottons’ fibers.

This operation draws on the ancient techniques of craft made dyes that used rigorously handmade “immersion” techniques in specific tanks of natural dyes, and without the need to heat.

The color combinations can be numerous and are acquired through by using ancient dyeing technique, which is a simple “immersion and oxidation” process which is totally manual just like a home hand rinse! The overall effect is dynamic owing to the “inconsistency” of the color penetration: color “reserves” give an effect of light/dark as if the garment had been treated with Stone Wash commonly used in industrial processes and particularly in the use of Natural Indigo Blue.

Another inevitable addition to the new denim collection are tweaks to existing fits and an introductions to some new ones for both men and women featuring regular, modern work and jockey fits for him, and new boys cut, straight fit and finally a “banana” fit in different lengths for her.
