Boy scouts and Beatniks: Junk De Luxe Newspaper

Army is this seasons favourite colour, appearing as a balancing element to stabilize multi-zipped nylon jackets and bold stripes running wild.

Suit jackets, slim and short, both sartorial and casual, made out of crumpled, coated fabrics accompanied by loose work wear pants and sexy, short sleeved, army shirts.

Fresh and cool! Fine washed and worn leather jackets are matched with denim
shirts and stone washed jersey “sweat pants” with rock-chic effects.

Quirky combos, shapes and input for the new JUNK boy scout allows him to be “anarchistic modernistic” – and less “stereotypistic”.

Fashion changes, style remains!

“Boy Scouts and Beatniks” at Junk De Luxe

With its own distinctive original style the Junk De Luxe designers playfully challenge all the codes and canons of the masculine wardrobe.

Everything is mixed together for a personal look and inspiration is drawn from army and sportswear in the seventies, pop art in the sixties and new wave in the eighties.

With a slightly retro flavour, Junk De Luxe is still faithful to its vintage roots and the beatnik culture.

In an experimental wise mix, a succession of colourful and discordant combos is presented: skinny silhouettes for daily looks where fitted, raw, washed out cotton trousers are combined with used tie-dye jerseys and camouflage army jackets.

In the classic line of the collection, every garment is designed to stand on its own as a unique piece rather than being designed according to trends or fashion clichés. “Boy Scouts and Beatniks” by Junk de Luxe

Are you a junk junky? Do you love rummaging through you neighbor’s garage? How about slamming on your breaks every time you pass a yard sale?

Well, I have good news for you! If you like Junk de Luxe, you can now find it in 700 stores of 25 countries! Only one point to bear in mind...there is no junk here!

Founded in 1986 in Denmark by Thomas Gundorph, who redesigned 2nd-hand jeans imported from the US, Junk de Luxe hit the shelves of Europe in 1992.

For autumn/winter 2011, Junk de Luxe has prepared “Boy Scouts and Beatniks,” which challenges the canons of the masculine wardrobe.

The collection draws inspiration from a gamut of sources like army uniforms, sports attire of the 70s, pop art in the 60s, and a 1980’s New Wave influence.

Retro in flavour, Junk de Luxe remains true to its vintage roots and the beatnik culture.

The silhouette is slim with fitted, raw, washed-out cotton trousers matched with tie-dye jerseys and camouflage army jackets.

Zippers abound, while bold stripes run wild.

The army motif flows naturally into a atypical image of the new Junk Boy Scout. Anarchist and modernist, he is anything but stereotyped!

“Casual Dissidents” by Junk de Luxe

If you are like me, you are probably wondering who are the “Casual Dissidents” in 2010 spring/summer. According to Junk De Luxe, it is all about Scandinavian street meeting vintage Americana as described in the following press release:

“The Junk De Luxe spring/summer collection shows a clean view on Scandinavian retro fashion combined with a whole panoply of the most variegated American sportswear designs.

Focusing on high-lighted looks from past times the ambiance is simplicity, urban and clean styling. But also a collection played on contrasts and personal individual looks with optimistic, colourful styling: a dash of charm and playful youthfulness with an array of classic designs like new interpretations of chic vintage chinos and tapered pants twinned with short double breasted blazers with dropped shoulders. Tailored sportswear trousers with contrast seams and buttons in washed out, crinkled cottons is also the favourite piece of the JUNK designers.

Creating experimental dressing codes the JUNK man is showing the image of a college boy-come-wall street adventurer .He wears a series of sport style like sleeveless, hooded fine knits and authentic biker jackets, cleverly balanced against a simple tailored concept. Everything is put to create a relaxed feel, yet elegant, with a rock touch. Sartorial, casual pants with dropped crotches in tartan cotton fabrics are seen with polka dot T-shirts in exciting colours and knit designs in mono chrome Jacquards under light weight parka coats.

Introducing the classic part of the collection the key words are simple styling and updated evergreens. The ultra-short coats and jackets are harmonious and stylish with perfectly balanced shape, materials and colours. Once again hats, ties and scarves are confirmed as the cult, must-have accessories for the JUNK gentleman peacock.

In the summer of 2010 the JUNK dissident is taking a free ride on the nostalgic Scan-American roller coaster.”

There's No Junk at All with Junk De Luxe!

I was highly intrigued by the way Danish label, Junk De Luxe, defined its brand concept: “sartorial slovenliness, remodeled vintage gear, and chic clean-cut T-shirts. Halfway between sophisticated tailoring and progressive Danish contemporary design, the Junk protagonist is combining heavy knits with elegant ‘couture’ pieces…”

Junk De Luxe was founded 1986 in Denmark in 1986 by Thomas Gundorph, who imported original secondhand jeans from the US, which he redesigned. Soon, in 1992, the first Junk De Luxe collection was on the shelves of Europe.

Junk De Luxe prides itself on the art of combination—ambiguity and contradiction which are not only inherent but also symbolic to its name: street fashion with a hint of Savile Row; a dash of clean-cut Rock ’n Roll.

What is unique about Junk De Luxe is you: the pieces are designed to highlight your personality without overshadowing it.

Junk De Luxe drew its inspiration from the beatniks, who in turn were inspired by writers and poets like Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs who popularized existentialism. Junk de Luxe writes:

“The young generation of fans gave rise to a whole panoply of beatnik gear: beards, torn and loose sweaters, loose turtleneck collars, loden coats, worn slacks or jeans, crumpled corduroy jackets and shirts set of by unshined shoes. English tailoring became part of street wear existentialism and statements. Second hand fashion was born!”
