So many fucking dresses, kittens!

Mondo:

A disappointing inaugural effort. We were really hoping for some crack fashion from him.

Instead, we got a shitty dress that looks like it was made out of old office furniture.

Hello, fucked up hem!

That putrid green was apparently from a sweater of Valerie's, so we'll give him a pass on that. Every other aspect, from the style and the execution, to the choice of contrasting fabric was shit-poor.

Peach:

It's cute. Not particularly impressive from a design standpoint, but a cute dress.

To be fair, she had one of the most difficult materials to work with, Michael's apparently very fragile knit wrap. We'll give her a pass on her relatively sparse use of it.

But once she committed to using the fabric only in tiny strips for the trim and the straps, she should have tried to figure out some way to make the design a little more impressive. As it is, the fabric she chose is doing all the work to make this very simple dress look cute. Still, she gets points for such simplicity. She obviously assessed the time limitations against what she felt she could reasonably pull together in that time. So, not a great design, but at least she showed some smarts.

We cannot, however, forgive the tulle.

Very confusing. Lots of weird choices with this one.

We'll give him credit for using the waistband of the bomber jacket as a collar and apparently repurposing some of the inner pockets as well.

But we don't get the rest of it. For one, why is it we can see her shoes from the back? Why is the hem higher in the back than in the front?

And why choose this shiny fabric, which looks like it's difficult to work with, when you only have 5 hours to make something?
And finally, why make a gown at all? The good ideas he had, which were all about reusing the elements of the jacket, could have worked just as well if not better on a cocktail dress, which would have been a bit easier to execute well given the time constraints.
