PR: Auf Wiedersehen!

Darling, I don't mean to alarm you but your dress is melting.

Ah, yes. The classic Project Runway beleaguered-designer mistake: "The judges think I'm X, but I'll show them that I can really do the hell out of Y!"

In Ivy's case, it was, "The judges think my work is bland and colorless, but I'll show them I can do something tacky as hell that'll burn their retinas off!"

This is just a sad, weird dress.

The color combo just wasn't working for us. She needed either a third color to mitigate the overwhelming blueness, or she should have picked different shades of blue. As it is, these were way too pageant-y. In fact, we couldn't believe the "Miss Guatemala" crack was reserved for Valerie's look over this.
It almost doesn't look terrible from the back.

The skirt sort of works and the straps are kind of interesting.

Unfortunately, a girl can't spend the night with her back to the room. Eventually, she's going to have to turn around.

Those strips are sad and ugly-looking.

And the bustline is just plain odd.

Basically, the whole look was a mess. A cross between a pageant dress and a melting Cookie Monster ice cream cake.

Don't even get us started on this sad little thing.

Actually, we'll cut her some slack here. This is at least simpler and cleaner than the high end dress, which was exactly the way to go.

But she chose to do that weird neckline again. Granted, we thought it was bad, but the judges acted like they were horrified.

Tangent: We're not exactly loving the "playing to the cameras" turn the judging has taken this season. We've gone from the thoughtful and spirited critiques the show was once known for to a judging panel that's veering awfully close to America's Next Top Model-style minstrelry. Kors is about one venti latte away from adding horn blasts and confetti to his comments.

Anyway, this was at least a step in the right direction, all things considered.

But the best you can say about it is that it's just alright.

Our main issue is the fit. This is kind of shapeless on her and it makes her look wide.

We realize a large portion of the commentariat will disagree, but we think the last few episodes have made it clear that Ivy and Gretchen aren't the horrible bitches everyone assumed they were. Personally, we kind of like her. She was tiny and forceful and able to talk herself into the game. Her designs weren't much to write about, but that's how the "talk herself into the game" part comes in. Through sheer force of will, she managed to make it through week in and week out, even though the judges weren't loving her work for the most part. She convinced herself to go through the competition as if she was starring in her own personal show and got back up each week after the judges raked her over the coals absolutely convinced that this next design was going to be the one . Sue us, we think people like her are fun to watch.
