Kerry Washington attends the opening night performance of "Das Rheingold" at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. She wore a Marchesa hand painted silk georgette gown and stingray square clutch.
Hmm.
You wouldn't think so, but we have to break this one down. Let's start with the part that's the most distracting, the just-above-nipple-height of the bustline. Paired with the droopy sleeve detail it makes it look like the whole thing is going to slide right off her any second. We suppose that could have been the whole point to the design but Marchesa doesn't usually go for the overtly sexy vibe. And besides, is a nipple dress really the best choice for the Met?
Still, we love the color on her, which surprises us because it's not a color we love normally. The hand-painted detail on the hem is a little nightgown-y, but we can't deny it's pretty. We couldn't get a closeup on the bag, but from where we're sitting it looks inoffensive, if a little on the boring side. Hair looks good; makeup's good but a little heavy, and we would not have recommended gold for the earrings.
See what we mean? At first glance, it's a relatively simple look, but there are pros and cons all over this thing. We're going to give her an IN because the overall effect is lovely and the spots where the ball was dropped weren't horribly bad. Mostly nitpicking, really. But what are you gonna do? We are T Lo. We pick nits.
