Get your ripe tomatoes ready, guys.
Because we're about to praise the dreaded Gretchen again.
But before you lob one our way, hear us out. We don't think this is perfect or anything. We don't think it necessarily needed or deserved to be in the top 3.
And we have to admit, the boot/legging things are kind of hideous.
But there's a certain breezy style and thoughtfulness to this look. It's not expected, by any means.
And the look actually goes with the hat without being obvious about it.
Tim Gunn's Workroom:
Peach. What are we going to do with you, honey? You're entertaining as hell and we will definitely be stealing that "good china" line, but sweetie...
Do you know how frustrated we are that we have to bust out the tired "homemade Barbie clothes" description but we have no choice because it's so glaringly obvious?
Are you aware of how much you're returning to the same colors and fabrics and the same tired Lily Pulitzer style?
Because the judges are aware. Just because they've given you a pass doesn't mean they don't have your number, dear. You better step it up and get out of this box you're in.
Now go make us proud.
Tim Gunn's Workroom:
Oh Mondo.
We want to applaud your every spastic burst of creativity, but this? This is too much for even us to bear.
We don't mind the basic idea behind this look, we just think a lot of crack got mixed up in the creative decision-making along the way.
Like, the basic idea of a vest and pants? Great. Doing them up in saturated colors and wild patterns? Okay, maybe.
Painting a mustache on the model? Love it. It's so happily weird it doesn't need explaining.
Unfortunately, the proportions on everything were bad. The vest was too small and the pants too full.
And the fabric choices were odd, and not in a good way. That shiny cheap-looking purple did not got with the freaking upholstery fabric he used on the bottom. We love weird in the competition, but the judges have a limit. Lucky for him, weird ideas beat no idea almost every time.
