So Ivy says she was inspired by the privacy curtains surrounding her hospital bed. We're thinking delirium can only be a good strategy for her going forward.
Because this was easily her best entry yet.
It's chic and classic and simple and elegant. There's just one problem.
It's everything the judges aren't looking for in this competition.
We get what she was going for here; the sort of upper class British at the racetrack look, which is perfectly suited for this hat.
But they're not looking for the latest in upper class British wear. They're looking for something chic and of the moment.
Additionally, she's going to have to break out of this neutral zone she's in. The judges love a good use of color and she's at the point where if she doesn't wow them soon, she's on the slide out the door.
Tim Gunn's Workroom:
Through the magic of the internet, our advice to A.J. traveled back in time and reached his ears a few months earlier. Namely, that if he didn't break out of his Heatherut he was going to be packing his bags soon.
Well, done.
It's a shame this didn't get some judgelove. It certainly deserved it.
But in a way, it's understandable. This is a lovely little dress and perfect for the hat, but like Ivy's, it's not exactly original.
In a lot of ways, it's almost expected. There's a Dior kind of feel to it and that makes perfect sense given the hat, but it also means it's a dress we've seen before - and with this kind of hat. Still, even if it is a little on the unoriginal side, it's a hell of a sight better than Valerie's inexplicably praised sportswear. The more we think about it, the more we would have put this in the top 3, unoriginality be damned.
But we're just happily surprised to see he can do this kind of work when he knows he has to.
We're looking forward to more of this kind of work from him.
