Whole lotta bullshit over nothing. Who didn't see that coming?
Y'know, we really only have a couple complaints about how the show has changed since it moved to Lifetime, but chief among them is the insultingly misleading previews. Stop trying to make "fetch" happen, Lifetime, and stop trying to turn PR into Survivor.
Cute challenge, right? He was very sweet. A little monotone, but a good judge. You can check out his fabulous creations on his site.
And that is the most fabulosity that poor runway's ever seen at one time.
And this was quite possibly the most awkward moment the runway's ever seen.
Oh, and seriously? Seriously, Bunim/Murray? The oldest Project Runway cliche there is? The tearful call home? Please, we're begging you, retire this tired trope.
So, he ditched his more interesting first design because it wasn't working. Which is fine; from what little we saw we didn't think it was working either.
Instead he made this. And won.
Don't look for any explanations from us, minions. We sure as hell don't get it.
We don't hate the dress at all. We don't love it either. It's a very basic dress, as far as we can tell.
You can purchase some variation on this dress in just about any department store. The only thing of slight interest is that there's a bit of volume in the skirt.
It's funny; we don't generally like handkerchief hems but as this was making its walk, we were saying that this particular one wasn't bad. In fact, that was our reaction to the whole dress: "Not bad." Especially considering it was his second attempt.
But "not bad" should never equal "Congratulations!"
Look at the sloppiness! The titscrepancy!
That ridiculously sad bow!
The only point on which we agreed with the judges was that this was an unusual and unexpected color choice and it did actually work with the hat. Sure, he's to be commended for that, but come on now. "This is what harmony looks like." Really, Michael? Because that's what bullshit sounds like.
Look, he seems like a really fun guy and his glee at getting compliments from the judges was endearing. But let's face it: the judges have gone off the rails this season. In fact, the judging has been SO cracktastic so far this season that we have to conclude it's deliberate in some way. We're 8 seasons in and the show has lost a lot of its lustre in that time. We're heading into America's Next Top Model territory, where the show continues its run by becoming more and more outrageous, ensuring that people keep coming back to see what the next outrageous decision will be. Thankfully, Heidi, for all her faults, is no Tyra and we don't expect to see the show sink to quite those depths, but it does feel a bit like they're grasping for some sort of controversy in order to keep people talking.
Which is odd to us, because in spite of the deliberately weird judging we're enjoying this season so far.
"Guess who won!"
"Uhhhh....someone...other than you?"
"WHAT THE FUCK??"
So say us all, Ivy. So say us all.
