24 Xiao

Some shocking pretty to jump start your week.

Taiwanese creative agency BlanQ created a fashion editorial, titled “24 Xiao,” and it was so good it wound up as an exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MOCA Taipei).

While the world continues to flatten under the effects of globalization, emphasizing local culture has never been more important. We have thus attempted to interpret modern fashion through the lens of traditional Chinese culture, starting with our first concept “24 Xiao” epitomize what to the ancient Chinese was the most important value of all-namely, caring for one’s parents’ needs. With their tales of sacrifices and bravery, it was viewed to be more cynicism than admiration, and the fact that these are acts of supreme selflessness still serve to awe.

In modern times, the same fervency can perhaps find a parallel in the absolute devotion of the fashion industry.

Imagine then, our tales of filial piety transposed to modern times, the rebirth of devotion, the renewed obsession, while filial piety was their religion, fashion will forever be ours."
