fhonetics—Exploring New Sounds Today, Remembering Tomorrow

With a Master’s of Science in Linguistics, I am all too familiar with phonetics—the physical sounds of human speech. So now, I am becoming acquainted with a new kind of sound—fhonetics—which is echoing from the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Established 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden, fhonetics is a relatively new brand by two designers, who have translated the music and rhythm of the modern-day explorer into sophisticated collections of men’s fashion design.

Much like the natural beauty of their native city, which extends across 14 islands and on into an archipelago of 30,000 islands, islet rocks, and skerries, Anders Backéus and Magnus Johansson echo within their collections nature’s luminescence cast upon pelagic tones and deep-sea colors.

Charting the waters of cubism and surrealism with a mist of art deco influence, the AW09 collection “Remember Tomorrow” aims at sailing the contemporary wayfarer into futuristic fantasies of traditional preppy tailoring.
